2023 Annual General Meeting (AGM) & Climate Justice Workshop | 27-29 April, Cairns - ACCOMPLISHED
Thank you to all the participants, organisers, sponsors, EAROPH International Secretariat and EAROPH Australia members that have made the Climate Justice Workshop and the AGM a success.
The Climate Justice Workshop culminated in the The Yidinji Declaration in favour of an Indigenous Climate Justice Charter which seeks collective action for a just and regenerative future drawing on the cultural sovereignty of Indigenous Peoples.
EAROPH Australia held its 2023 Annual General Meeting (AGM) in tropical Cairns, Queensland. It was a great opportunity to meet in person as the 'long veil' of the COVID-19 pandemic lifts.
The Climate Justice Workshop addressed the multiple challenges/dimensions of climate change, such as energy, habitat, water, waste and carbon sequestration, with a First Nations lens and voice. It was a enlightening dialogue about nature based solutions and how to tackle loss and damages that are already impacting Country in the Pacific Nations, Australia and beyond.
The workshop was an event of the UN Pacific Urban Partnership (PUP) that seeks to accelerate the implementation of the New Urban Agenda to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals in the Pacific. PUP partners include: Commonwealth Local Government Forum (CLGF), EAROPH, Home in Place, ICLEI Local Governments for Sustainability (Oceania), Monash University, UN-ESCAP, UN-Habitat, and the University of Melbourne. The Workshop will be a lead-in event to the Pacific Urban Forum (PUF6), to be held in Fiji in August 2023.
The next stop will be to share and further the Indigenous Climate Justice Charter at the Pacific Urban Forum (PUF) in Fiji. Hope to see you all in August 2023, to continue our journey for climate justice.
